I have been a postdoctoral researcher at the Maison des affaires publiques et internationales (Institute of Public and International Affairs) at the Université de Montréal since 2025. I defended my PhD in 2023 as part of a joint program between Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Université de Montréal. From 2023 to 2025, I held a postdoctoral fellowship at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada, funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ).
Having a German-Mexican background and having pursued my academic training across several countries have strongly shaped my comparative perspective and my interest in federal systems. My current research focuses on multi-level governance and comparative federalism, with a particular emphasis on the political systems of Canada and the European Union, as well as on international and comparative environmental politics. I am also interested in the application of comparative methodologies in Canadian and EU studies.
Passionate about teaching, I have taught courses in comparative politics, Canadian politics, EU politics, and environmental and climate politics at McGill University, the Université de Montréal, the Université du Québec à Montréal, LMU Munich, and the University of Cologne.
I completed my BA and MA in political science, Latin American studies, and energy economics primarily at the University of Cologne, with periods of study at the Université de Montréal, the University of Guadalajara, the University of Liège, and the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. Following my graduate studies, I worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Jean Monnet Chair and the Centre for Turkey and EU Studies (CETEUS) at the University of Cologne. During my PhD, I conducted research stays at the Université catholique de Louvain, the University of Alberta, and the University of Victoria.
Outside academia, I enjoy spending time outdoors, particularly biking and hiking, and discovering new places in Quebec and across Canada. More recently, I joined a badminton team, which has become a rewarding weekly activity that helps me maintain balance alongside my academic work. I am particularly excited to represent Montréal and Canada at this year’s Gay Games in Valencia, Spain.
