My work engages closely with policy and public audiences, with a focus on translating academic research into policy-relevant analysis and fostering dialogue across academia, government, and civil society.
Public administration, monitoring and reporting
At the University of Cologne, I co-authored (with Wolfgang Wessels) a handbook (Die deutsche Verwaltung und die Europäische Union) for the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Academy of Public Administration (BAköV). Designed for the training of public officials, it examines how Germany coordinates EU policy-making and implementation across the Bundestag, the Länder, and federal ministries. This work was complemented by four annual reports for BAköV analyzing developments in Germany’s EU negotiations, coordination, and implementation processes.
At the Université de Montréal, I collaborated with Frédéric Mérand on a report for Global Affairs Canada on Brexit and the future of the European Union. In my current role at the Maison des affaires publiques et internationales, I also oversee the editing of student-produced event reports.
Exchange between academia, policy, and the public
At the Maison des affaires publiques et internationales, I contribute to initiatives that connect academic research with policy practice. This includes participation in a science diplomacy forum on sustainable development and the organization of a roundtable on Canadian federalism in the context of Donald Trump’s trade policy. The event brought together senior practitioners and academics, including former Canadian Minister and Ambassador Stéphane Dion, former Quebec Minister Raymond Bachand, and Assistant Deputy Minister Jeannine Ritchot.
Earlier engagements include the organization of outreach, networking, and knowledge exchange events through the Cologne Monnet Association for EU Studies (COMOS), including policy labs and conferences in Nice and Montréal. These events created intergenerational platforms for dialogue and featured participants such as Thomas Mulcair, André Pratte, and Andrew Duff.
I also regularly contribute to public and academic discussions through invited talks and policy-oriented publications on EU-Canada relations, Canadian and European politics, and environmental and climate policy.
Academic community engagement
I am actively involved in academic service, including leadership and executive roles in several associations and networks, such as the European Community Studies Association Canada (ECSA-C), the Emerging Scholars’ Forum of the Association for Canadian Studies in German-speaking Countries (GKS), the International Research Training Group “Diversity,” the Cologne Monnet Association for EU Studies (COMOS), and the ECSA-C Young Researchers’ Network. My service also includes peer review, participation in award committees, and membership on a standing committee for the evaluation of grant applications at the Fonds de recherche du Québec.
